High Protein Recipes
Every recipe and meal idea on this page delivers at least 30 grams of protein per serving. That is not an arbitrary number. It is the amount research shows is needed to deliver enough leucine to fully stimulate muscle protein synthesis at each meal. Below that threshold, the signal to build and maintain muscle is weaker and over time, you are leaving results on the table.
I have been designing meals around this principle for years, through NPC competition prep, coaching women on body composition and building out every recipe on this site with protein as the starting point, not an afterthought. Whether you eat keto, low carb or include whole grains and starches, the protein-first approach works the same way. Pick your protein, build around it, and hit the threshold at every meal.

High Protein Breakfast
Breakfast is where most women fall short on protein. If your first meal is toast and coffee, you start the day in a deficit that is hard to make up later. A crossover study comparing even protein distribution (30 grams per meal) against the typical skewed pattern (10 grams at breakfast, 60 at dinner) found that even distribution produced significantly greater 24-hour muscle protein synthesis, even though total daily protein was identical. Front-loading matters.

Favorites from the recipe archive: sausage and egg breakfast casserole (make on Sunday, reheat all week), quiche Florentine with sausage (32g protein per slice), the only frittata recipe you need (endlessly customizable) and keto oatmeal with a scoop of protein powder stirred in.

High Protein Lunch
Lunch is where convenience usually wins and protein usually loses. The fix is having protein prepped and ready so you can assemble a plate in minutes rather than defaulting to a salad with croutons and no protein source.
Favorites from the archive: keto chicken salad (double the batch for the week), Mediterranean tuna salad, taco salad and leftover protein from last night's dinner over greens with olive oil. Lunch does not need to be complicated, but it does need to have optimal protein.

High Protein Dinner
Dinner is usually where protein intake is highest, but even here, many recipes bury the protein under heavy sauces, carb-heavy sides or too-small portions. Every dinner recipe on this site is designed so the protein is the foundation of the plate, not a side player.
Favorites from the archive: creamy spinach and artichoke chicken (42g protein, family favorite), creamy cajun shrimp (38g protein with cauliflower rice), bacon-wrapped chicken, chicken parmesan, keto butter chicken and Mexican stuffed peppers.

High Protein Meal Prep
The single biggest barrier to hitting your protein target consistently is not knowing what to eat. Meal prep removes that barrier. Spend 30 to 60 minutes on Sunday cooking two to three protein sources and you have the building blocks for the entire week.
Start with the ground beef meal prep guide for a complete step-by-step system. Egg muffins, breakfast casseroles and hard-boiled eggs are the breakfast prep staples. For a full week of meals already planned out with a grocery list, see the 7-day high protein meal plan for women.
Cook everything in non-toxic cookware. If you are putting this much effort into eating well, the pans you cook in matter too. Learn why this is important and how to reduce your daily toxin exposure.

High Protein Snacks and Sides
Snacks are where the gap between your protein target and your actual intake usually hides. A snack with 15 to 20 grams of protein can be the difference between hitting your number and falling 30 grams short at the end of the day.
Quick options that require zero cooking: cottage cheese with everything bagel seasoning, Greek yogurt with a scoop of protein powder, deli turkey and cheese roll-ups, hard-boiled eggs, or a protein shake. Keep emergency protein in the house at all times.

High Protein for Weight Loss
Protein is the most important macronutrient for weight loss. It preserves lean muscle during a calorie deficit, has the highest thermic effect of any macro (your body burns more calories digesting it) and keeps you fuller longer. The research from the International Society of Sports Nutrition recommends 1.6 to 2.2 grams per kilogram during fat loss to protect lean mass. An easy target to remember is about one gram per pound of ideal body weight or 2.2 grams per kilogram.

High Protein for GLP-1 Users

If you are taking Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro or Zepbound, protein becomes even more critical. The STEP 1 trial showed that a significant portion of weight lost on semaglutide came from lean tissue, not just fat. Without adequate protein and resistance training, you risk losing the muscle that keeps your metabolism healthy long term.
The practical challenge: GLP-1 medications suppress appetite, which makes eating enough protein harder. On your worst appetite days, a protein shake plus Greek yogurt plus one solid meal can keep you on track.
Start with the GLP-1 diet plan for a complete eating framework with a 7-day meal plan designed around smaller, protein-forward meals. For the science behind muscle preservation on these medications, read the GLP-1 and muscle loss guide. And use the protein calculator with the GLP-1 toggle for your adjusted target.

Keto Recipes
Every recipe I have developed since 2017 has been keto-friendly and protein-forward. Most of my keto recipes deliver 30 grams of protein or more per serving because I have always designed them that way, long before high protein became a trend. If you eat keto or low carb, the full keto recipe library is organized by category: main dishes, appetizers, salads, soups, sides and desserts.

frequently asked questions
How much protein do I need per day?
Most active women benefit from 0.7 to 1.0 grams of protein per pound of goal body weight. The 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines updated the general recommendation to 1.2 to 1.6 grams per kilogram. For women in a calorie deficit, the ISSN recommends 1.6 to 2.2 grams per kilogram to protect lean mass. Use the protein calculator for women for your personalized target.
What are the best high protein foods?
The most protein-dense whole foods per calorie are egg whites, chicken breast, white fish like cod and tilapia, shrimp, nonfat Greek yogurt, low-fat cottage cheese, turkey breast and lean ground beef. Whey protein isolate is the most efficient supplement option. Build meals around these staples, then add vegetables, healthy fats and carbs around them.
How do I eat 30 grams of protein at every meal?
Anchor each meal around a protein source first. At breakfast: three eggs plus sausage, Greek yogurt with protein powder, or a protein smoothie. At lunch: five ounces of chicken, tuna salad, or turkey roll-ups. At dinner: five to six ounces of any meat or fish. If a meal falls short, add a protein side like cottage cheese, a hard-boiled egg, or a cheese stick to close the gap.
Are high protein recipes good for weight loss?
Yes. Protein is the most satiating macronutrient and has the highest thermic effect, meaning your body burns more calories digesting protein than carbs or fat. Higher protein intake during a calorie deficit also preserves lean muscle, which protects your metabolism. The key is pairing adequate protein with a moderate calorie deficit and resistance training.
Can I eat high protein on keto?
Absolutely. Keto and high protein are not mutually exclusive. I eat both simultaneously and have for years. The traditional keto emphasis on high fat can make it harder to hit protein targets, which is why I recommend the higher protein keto option in the keto calculator. Most of the recipes on this site are both keto-friendly and protein-forward with 30 grams or more per serving.
